Rhinoplasty from Dr. Vasileff

Patients should not bring in photographs of their favorite celebrities and expect to achieve the same result. Sculpting a beautiful nose has much more to do with balancing facial features than creating a cookie-cutter look based on society's idea of an attractive nose.

Dr. Vasileff begins each consultation with a clinical analysis to evaluate the proportion of your face and nose. He takes the time to understand your desired results and creates a personalized solution. The best candidates for rhinoplasty are those who want to improve, not perfect, the appearance or structure of their nose. Dr. Vasileff also performs revision rhinoplasty for patients who experienced an undesirable outcome from a previous surgery.

A leader in Michigan nose surgery, Dr. Vasileff is board-certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and did his surgical training at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He then went to the Cleveland Clinic and the University of Pennsylvania for specialized plastic surgery training. His extensive training and experience in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures transform the way his patients feel about their inner and outer beauty. Understanding Rhinoplasty

When done properly by a skilled plastic surgeon, rhinoplasty in Michigan can address a full range of cosmetic and functional concerns or a combination of the two. Specifically, it can improve a nose that:

  • Is not in proportion with the rest of your face
  • Is crooked or has a bump on the bridge
  • Has been broken or collapsed from trauma
  • Causes breathing problems because of a deviated septum

Whether you are experiencing a minor nuisance or a major problem, Dr. Vasileff provides you with an honest evaluation and all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Preparing for Rhinoplasty

There is very little risk associated with nose surgery. Dr. Vasileff performs the procedure on an outpatient basis at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan or Tru Vista Surgery Center in Troy, Michigan. At either location, you receive outstanding care from a highly trained, discreet staff.

You should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours. Rhinoplasty patients can expect to return to their normal routines within one week, sometimes even after a long weekend. As with any surgery, the most important part of recovery is allowing your body the time it needs to heal.

Recovering from Surgery

Many people in Michigan who choose rhinoplasty are pleasantly surprised that it's easier than they expected and say there is very little pain associated with the surgery. You may experience some bruising and swelling around your nose and eyes, but any discomfort is easily managed with pain medication.

Most procedures are done inside the nose and leave no visible scars. Dr. Vasileff places an external splint on your nose to hold the new structure in place. The external splint is removed at your one-week post-operative check. If the septum is worked on also, Dr. Vasileff uses internal splints that are removed one week later. He does not use packing inside the nose because of the discomfort patients feel when it is removed. Although the nose reshapes for up to a year, you'll be delighted at the immediate improvement.

Enjoying Your Results

Based on your desired results, improvement to your nose's appearance may be subtle or dramatic. Or, it may simply fix a breathing problem that no one will notice but you. Either way, cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty results are usually permanent. So, take a deep breath and enjoy!
