Eyelid Surgery
for the Detroit, Michigan Area

The eyes are the most expressive part of the face, but they're also one of the first areas of the body to show signs of aging. Thousands of people in the Detroit area, who have noticed that their eyelids are beginning to sag, are turning to surgery. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, in Michigan can rejuvenate your upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. It treats:

  • Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or impairs vision
  • Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Droopy lower eyelids
  • Excess skin and wrinkles

Many people who choose blepharoplasty also have a brow lift or face lift in Michigan to reduce excess skin and wrinkles. The result is a natural, refreshed appearance that helps you look as young as you feel.

Eyelid Surgery from Dr. Vasileff

One of the qualities that differentiates Dr. Vasileff from other plastic surgeons in Michigan is the time he spends understanding your expectations and goals. Many patients seek out blepharoplasty in Michigan because they feel great, but their droopy eyelids make them look tired, sad or even angry. Others have so much excess skin that it impairs their vision. Dr. Vasileff believes that eyelid surgery should achieve a "you, only better" result and does not perform the type of aggressive surgery that leads to the unnatural appearance made famous by some celebrities. Understanding Eyelid Surgery

To repair upper eyelids, an incision is made within the natural crease of the eyelid allowing Dr. Vasileff to reposition fat deposits, tighten muscles or remove excess skin. For the lower eyelids, the incision is usually placed just underneath the eyelashes. In some cases, the lower eyelids can be done through an incision on the inside of the eyelid. The incision lines for eyelid surgery, upper and lower, are made within the natural structures of the eyelid to conceal any scarring.

Sometimes younger patients who consult with Dr. Vasileff about eyelid surgery are better suited for less-invasive procedures like injectables or laser skin resurfacing that instantly smooth out wrinkles and plump up your skin. But, for those with more progressed signs of aging eyelid surgery helps recapture a more youthful appearance.

Preparing for Eyelid Surgery

Most patients should plan for a one-week recovery. Prior to surgery, you may want to stock up on the following items:

  • Groceries
  • Over-the-counter pain medication
  • Clean washcloths
  • Ice cubes and sandwich bags to make ice packs
  • A bottle of artificial tears

You should also arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

Recovering from Surgery

Of all the plastic surgery procedures, eyelid surgery has the easiest recovery. There is nearly no pain, and bruising and swelling are minimal. Soon after your surgery, you will have a follow-up appointment at the office to check on your healing and remove any stitches. You can return to work within a few days and resume your exercise routine within two weeks.

Enjoying Your Results

Your final results will appear within several weeks. Michigan eyelid surgery is long lasting and will likely never need to be repeated. You will continue to age naturally, however, so to slow down the acceleration of excess eyelid skin, you should eliminate tobacco use and use sun protection every day.
