Understanding Breast Lift
Breast lift usually requires three incisions: around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the crease under the breast and horizontally across the breast crease. Through these incisions, Dr. Vasileff lifts and reshapes the underlying breast tissue and repositions the nipple and areola to a more natural height. Not every woman requires all three incisions; sometimes it is possible to perform a breast lift with only one incision around the areola. No matter how many incisions are necessary, Dr. Vasileff places them to be easily hidden under clothing.
Preparing for Breast Lift
Given that pregnancy and weight loss have a big impact on the breast, the best candidates for breast lift surgery are women who have a healthy, stable weight and who are done having children. Younger women in Michigan can benefit from breast lift, too, if one breast is lower than the other. It is important, however, that the patients have reached an age when their breasts are fully developed.
Recovering from Surgery
After surgery, gauze will be placed over your breasts under a soft, surgical bra that you should plan to wear for several weeks. Although we typically offer prescription pain medication, most of our patients describe the discomfort as "mild soreness" and take an over-the-counter remedy like Tylenol. As with most surgeries, you can expect some mild bruising, swelling and a temporary loss of sensation, which typically returns in several weeks but can take months. You can return to work or ease back into your routine within a week.

"Why did I wait so long?" is the question Dr. Vasileff hears most often after breast lift surgery. Although it takes up to six months for breasts to settle into their new shape and position, and it can take a year for scars to fade, women all over Michigan are enjoying the nicely-positioned, shapely breasts of their youth.
