Tummy Tuck from Dr. Vasileff
Also known as abdominoplasty in Michigan, a tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure dramatically reduces the appearance of a protruding abdomen. Many patients in the Detroit area who choose tummy tuck surgery also have liposuction of the hips and waist to maximize results.
Dr. Vasileff has helped thousands of people achieve a smooth, firm abdominal contour. Click here to read more about Dr. Vasileff's background and credentials.
Understanding Tummy Tucks
Tummy tucks are performed through an incision that extends from just above the pubis, up toward each hip. Through the incision, Dr. Vasileff repairs weakened abdominal muscles and removes excess fat, tissue and skin. In most cases, patients need a second incision around the belly button to allow removal of all the skin and fat between the belly button and pubis. It's important to note that a tummy tuck is not a substitute for weight loss or exercise. Although the results are permanent, you can lose a lot of the improvement if you gain a significant amount of weight after surgery. That's why Dr. Vasileff recommends postponing a tummy tuck if you are planning to lose a lot of weight or have more children.
Preparing for a Tummy Tuck
Regardless of whom you choose to perform your tummy tuck, Dr. Vasileff's main concern is that you select a qualified plastic surgeon. You'd be amazed at the number of physicians who take a weekend course in "tummy tucks" and start performing surgery the following Monday. At the very least, choose a doctor who is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. But, you'll also want a doctor who takes time to understand your goals, discusses realistic expectations and provides you with the information you need to make an informed decision. Dr. Vasileff has spent the last 28 years guiding his patients to the decision that's right for them.
Recovering from Surgery
After surgery, you will be wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling and to provide support to your abdomen while it heals. You may experience some discomfort, but most of our patients tell us it's easily managed with over-the-counter pain medicine. It's important to avoid bending, straining or lifting anything heavy for the first week so you don't put stress of any internal stitches. You can usually return to light activity after a few days and resume your normal routine within a few weeks.
Enjoying Your Results
You can start enjoying your flatter, firmer abs almost immediately. Patients are overwhelmingly thrilled with the way they look and feel in and out of clothes! Whether you want flat abs for the first time in your life or you want to reclaim your pre-baby abs, Detroit tummy tuck by Dr. Vasileff is an excellent decision.
