Liposuction from Dr. Vasileff
Dr. Vasileff performs liposuction in two ways:
- Suction-assisted lipectomy uses a hollow metal tube, called a cannula, which is inserted through a small incision. The cannula is attached to a vacuum source, which provides the suction needed to remove the fatty tissue.
- Ultrasound-assisted lipectomy uses a special cannula that emits ultrasonic energy to break down and remove fatty deposits.
With either approach, Dr. Vasileff uses a tumescent technique, which involves injecting fluid containing a local anesthetic into the fatty areas before doing the liposuction. This technique can reduce discomfort from surgery and post-operative bruising. Understanding Liposuction
It's grossly unfair, but we're born with all the fat cells we're ever going to have. Based on diet and heredity, those fat cells can get bigger. Liposuction removes fat from areas where it is out of proportion to the rest of your body, and the results are permanent. But, it's important to note that liposuction does not remove all the fat cells in any given area. If you gain a lot of weight after liposuction, the remaining fat cells will get bigger so it's important to maintain your healthy lifestyle. Liposuction is an excellent procedure for body contouring but not for weight loss or major changes in physique.
Preparing for Liposuction
Dr. Vasileff will give you specific instructions to prepare for surgery including guidelines for eating, drinking and taking medications. In Michigan, liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis so you should arrange for someone to take you to and from the hospital and stay with you for the first night.
Recovering from Surgery
After surgery, you will be wearing a compression garment, which should be worn day and night for the first week then daily for 3-4 weeks to reduce swelling and ensure proper healing. Most patients experience moderate discomfort, especially in the second 24 hours after surgery when the anesthesia wears off. This is usually relieved with prescription pain medicine. You can return to non-strenuous work 1-2 weeks after surgery depending on the number of areas treated.
